The TO Wards Peace initiative is a community centric, multi-sectoral and risk driven model that takes a public health approach on violence reduction by focusing on 5 areas: Identification, Intervention, Interruption, Prevention and Evaluation. TO Wards Peace operates through the collaborative efforts of local Grassroots organizations, community health centers, hospitals and the City of Toronto to address the escalating levels of gun violence in the city.
As part of this initiative, the city supports different community-led projects/initiatives directed towards Caregivers. These directed investments will support the collective efforts of different community groups in providing supports to families, healing in community, and advocacy for action and anti-gun violence investments in Toronto.
TNGCS is partnering with the City of Toronto to support and coordinate community groups in the delivery of their own community-based initiatives. TNGCS will be selecting two to four established community-based groups, or a collective of individuals who have extensive experience in the Woburn, Malvern, Westhill, or Morningside communities, to deliver programs and initiatives by caregivers, and for caregivers.
The goal of the Caregivers initiative is to amplify the voices of caregivers by supporting and building their capacity and including them in solutions focused on healing and overcoming the traumatic impacts associated with community violence. This includes creating a mutually supportive environment for them to share ideas, build supportive healing networks and strengthen community resources and cohesion.
Groups can apply for funding between $15,000.00 and $40,000.00.
The Call for proposals will be issued on July 22nd, 2024. This will be followed by a virtual information session on July 29th, 2024, and August 13th, along with opportunities to engage in virtual coaching sessions. The deadline for submissions is September 2nd, 2024. Decisions will be made in early September, and programs will be notified by September 16th. Programs will be implemented between September 2024 and February 2025.
