The Trusteehub Presents: WELLNESS WEEK

Recalibrate, Refuel, Repurpose, Resurface

As grassroots and community leaders, we are often responding to urgent community issues and usually don't have the time to build our internal structures and processes.

This day consisting of two workshops is an intentional space for you to build a strong foundation for your work to have maximum impact.

This wellness summit will include:

Session 1: Art Therapy (12 pm-1:30 pm)

This virtual psycho-education training session, interactive in its approach, focuses on mental health and building mental health awareness through Art Therapy. Far too often we overlook the symptoms of stress and how they have a direct impact on our mental well-being, especially during this 2020 Covid-19 pandemic. Through Art Therapy, we are going to explore art as healing and therapy, look introspectively, make a greater effort to recognize our stressors, and understand how managing them can be effective tools for maintaining optimum well-being

  • Self-Care / Coping strategies 3. Art as Therapy Activities:

Activities:

  • Art Therapy (We are making Personal Post -Cards and writing letters to ourselves)
  • Friendly Icebreaker

Materials that will be needed to facilitate:

  • A few pieces of Blank white paper (any size preferred)
  • (Pencil crayons, or markers in a variety of colours)
  • Pens

30 MIN BREAK - (1:30-2 pm)

Folks can take a quick break before the next session. Refuel, energize. Washroom breaks and have a snack!

Session 2: Breath Work and Movement (2 pm-4 pm)

A unique dance experience using various beginner friendly choreographed dance styles and movements. Each session starts with guided breathwork to reduce anxiety, increase clarity and elevate the vibration of the space. The session will then proceed with the guided movement and choreography, a few quick breaks during the session, and end with a quick reflection.

  • Enough room to dance
  • Running shoes or comfortable shoes

LIMITED SPACES, REGISTER EARLY

*Priority will be given to:

  • Folks interested in completing the entire course
  • BIPOC and Indigenous youth ages 18-29*

FACILITATOR BIO

Session 1: Art Therapy with Justin Rodriguez, BSc., M.A.

Justin Rodriguez is a Facilitator with the Holistic Wellness Project. He is a Mental Health Professional, Content Contributor and He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Behavioural Sciences, emphasis Psychology, and Sociology. Subsequent to this, he completed a certificate in Social Work before deciding to pursue his Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology, emphasis on Psychological Assessment and Evaluation. Justin facilitates EAP (Employee Assistant Programs) for a number of government and non-government companies, designs and implements programs in communities and in schools, and holds specialist training in Traumatic Incident Reduction and Art Therapy.

He has seen the transformative power of Art as Therapy and frequently incorporates a variety of creative techniques in his sessions. He is also a dancer, former athlete, musician, scout, swimmer, and swim coach, and uses his knack for helping others in his many avenues of life.

Session 2: Breath Work and Movement with Kassandra

Kassandra (Kass) is a Facilitator and Content creator with the Holistic Wellness Project.

She is currently a public relations student who is passionate about all things Art. Kass is a dancer and digital creator and has facilitated numerous dance and movement classes both virtually and in-person prior to Covid-19 restrictions. Her bright and positive spirit can be felt by everyone she encounters and has a gift for creating and sharing.

She is also a Lifestyle enthusiast, singer, and fashion lover and she also has a YouTube channel.

The Holistic Wellness Project

The Holistic Wellness Project is a black-owned artistic and holistic wellness community organization of youth educators, professionals and creatives and artists.

They seek to foster delivery inclusion in wellness by providing free, low cost and donation based quality wellness experiences, promote radical self-love and to connect people and professionals.

Event and Registration Info:

  • Registration for this session will close Friday, November 20, 2020 by 3pm EST.
  • There will be breaks between each session.
  • Recommended to have paper pen/ pencils on hand for the Art Therapy session

Accessibility Needs

  • The movement session is wheelchair accessible. There will be versions of each movement simultaneously on the screen.
